1900 - 1971    1909 - 1990

Aubra Sherwood opened a family-run florist shop in Oxford and later moved it to the Square in Covington.

Sherwood served on the city council and as mayor of Oxford. During his administration, Oxford got its first fire truck, its first natural gas lines, and its first street signs.

His wife, Ruth Sherwood completed nursing training at the Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta and worked for many years at the Porterdale Hospital.  She was also the only woman to serve on the first hospital board in Covington.
