Martha Judith ("Judy") Greer
1935 -
Greer earned B.A. degrees in English and history from LaGrange College in 1957 and came to Oxford that same year, accepting a position as physical education teacher with the understanding that she would go back to school and get a masters degree in physical education, which she did in 1961 from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She left Oxford for four years, but returned in 1966, re-joining the faculty and working as a women’s counselor and as Assistant Dean of Students. She began teaching two physical education classes, served as a coach of the women’s tennis team, and was involved with intermural sports.
In 1971, Greer was awarded the Graduate Alumna Award and the following year received her doctorate in physical education from the University of Georgia. She was appointed to the position of associate professor in 1973 and promoted to full professor in 1982.
A scholarship award was initiated by the class of 1959 and supported by other alumni and friends to honor Judy Greer.
Greer is an active member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church.
