J. Hamby Barton, Jr.
1921 - 2013

J. Hamby Barton was born in Griffin, Georgia to J. Hamby Senior and George-Etta Barton.  He received a B.A. degree in psychology from Emory University and a B.D. and PhD from Drew University.  Barton served as a chaplain in the United States Navy during World War II assigned to the Navy Seabees and the Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater.  He later served as Methodist minister in Pennsylvania, Kansas, South Carolina, Georgia, and finally, at the First Methodist Church of Naples as Pastor Emeritus.

Barton returned to Emory as the associate dean at Oxford College during the tenure of Dean Virgil Eady.
