Elise McCauley Hammond

Elise Hammond moved to Oxford in 1978 and opened an art studio, Artline, conducting art classes for adults and children alike.  In 1985, Hammond became a charter member of the Covington-Oxford Arts Guild and served as its president and secretary/treasurer.  Later, Hammond served as director of the Southern Heartland Art Festival from 2001 to 2003.

Two of her paintings of red wolves won the National Wolf Awareness Poster Competition in 1997 and 2000; a third painting was exhibited in Artists’ Atelier of Atlanta’s juried show, “Wildlife and Other Worldly Creatures.”  Other awards she has received include first prize at in the Scenes of Newton County Art Show and a merit award in the Marble House Spring/Summer Show. Her work has been commissioned by the Newton County Chamber of Commerce, the Bank of Covington, Emory University, General Mills, and the Newton County Judicial Center.
