Dr. J. Frederick & Mary Burns Landt
1926 - 1988           1926 - 2014

The Landts moved to Oxford in 1954 when Fred joined the biology department at Oxford College.  In 1955, Mary became Dean Eady's secretary, then the couple left Oxford while Fred pursued his doctorate at Emory University in Atlanta.  Frank returned to teach at Oxford College in 1960 and remained there until his death in 1988.

Mary, a graduate of Howard College, took classes at Oxford College between 1970 and 1971.  She joined the library staff as assistant librarian and remained there for many years, including working as a volunteer after her retirement.

In 1991, the J. Frederick and Mary Burns Landt Scholarship Endowment was established, providing funding to students in need of financial aid.  In 1996, the J. Frederick Landt Field Laboratory was named in his memory.  Both of the Landts' children are alumni of Oxford College, and Mary hosted several of their class reunions at her house.

Mary was active in the Square Foot for Science Project, was often hostess of the Lunch and Learn Emeriti Group, and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of two local book clubs.
